Finding a Hotel in Billings

• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Billings, Montana.
Situated in south central Montana, Billings is the state's largest city and is a commercial hub for much of Montana as well as for northern Wyoming. With two large regional hospitals, two colleges, an exhibition center and a busy airport, the city—nicknamed the Magic City—sees a constant stream of business travelers and in-state residents, as well as tourists using Billings as a starting point for nearby attractions such as Yellowstone National Park, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument—the site of General Custer's last stand—and the small but bustling tourist town of Red Lodge.

Finding a hotel in Billings is straight forward as the city has a wide selection of hotel and motel properties, most of which are conveniently located close to Interstate 90 or near Billings Logan International Airport. Following are four main areas where visitors will find most of the accommodation options.

27th STREET & DOWNTOWN

North 27th Street runs from I-90 (south of Billings) through the city's downtown business district to the airport, which is situated just above the rimrocks north Billings, meaning an abundance of hotel and motel rooms can be found along or near this main city thoroughfare. In addition to the airport and business district, hotels here are close to Billings' large medical facilities, the campus of Montana State University Billings, and MetraPark—the city's main entertainment and trade center. Family-run mom and pop-style motels, independent and chain properties, and upscale rooms can all be found around N 27th Street, with most offering transportation to and from the airport.

WEST END

Billing's west end continues to develop and expand as the city's main retail district and a wealth of chain hotel properties have followed suit, giving both in and out-of-state visitors a multitude of guest rooms to choose from along King Avenue West, Overland Avenue and Mullowney Lane, all of which closely parallel I-90. Many of the properties in the west end feature long lists of amenities such as indoor pools, fitness facilities and wireless Internet, while some also offers airport shuttles, and along with large retail superstores, the area is replete with popular chain restaurants.

CENTRAL

A handful of both independent motels and national chain hotels are clustered along Southgate Drive in the south central area of Billings. Guests can expect to find indoor pools, hot tubs and airport shuttles, and like the city's other properties, accommodation here is just off the interstate and is convenient to both Billings' busy west end and its downtown.

THE HEIGHTS

The city's northeast end is referred to as the Heights and staying here is within easy reach of MetraPark, which is home to a variety of livestock exhibitions, rodeos, fairs, horse racing and music concerts, as well as the airport—which is located just to the west of the Heights. Main Street is the main thoroughfare through the Heights and a selection of economical motels and hotels can be found along it.
